This sweet little fella has the best cheeks EVER. Perfectly alert but gave us great sleepy images also.
Loved this little boy and his adorable parents.

I am likely insane for trying to keep up with two blogs, and two facebook pages but it sure is a lot of fun.
The Inspired Mama is my outlet for a different creativity. I love home decor and anything related to motherhood and it always felt a bit weird sharing all of those things here on a portrait blog. Since I started this Kim Flores Portraits blog in 2007, it was mainly to share sessions. Along came Facebook and now most of my session sharing happens over there. No need to duplicate the shares, so this blog has cobwebs! I’m working on a schedule to change that…. but in case it doesn’t happen, you know to find recent work shared over on the portrait Facebook;)
I can’t believe this little guy is turning ONE!!!! If you have visited me in the past year, you have seen the cube with his adorable newborn session.
If you’re looking for a good baker in the Elkridge, Ellicott City or Columbia area (super close to the studio)… check out Delightful Indulgence! I see a lot of cakes come into the studio and this was amazing!!!
To say I loved miss Emma’s newborn session would be a total understatement. Not a peep out of this little princess. Simply divine.
Many of you already know that we are building a new home in Taneytown Maryland. Every time I tell someone that, the first reaction I get is “Taneytown? Where is that?!”—- I think that’s why I like it;) It seems like very few people know where it is which means it’s perfect for our family. I know that sounds bad, but I have always dreamed of living either near the beach, or in the country away from the chaos of the city. Since commuting from Ocean City is a wee bit much, we decided the “country” would be a better option.
Taneytown is a quiet little historic town near the Pennsylvania/Maryland line. I know you’ve visited Gettysburg at some point in your lives (at least if you’re on the East coast). Taneytown is right by there… and just 20 minutes past Westminster. Our new neighborhood is an adorable little area surrounded by farm land and a park. The community is small enough that we already know several of the neighbors and made some amazing friends… and we aren’t even in the house yet! Bob Ward Homes is doing an AMAZING job!!!!
I’m sure you’re wondering why this matters to you. It doesn’t I suppose, but I have really felt the need to add some personality on this blog and not just post sessions. Knowing the person behind the lens is important too right? The only way it will affect you will be the studio will have set open days now, including afternoon appointments! I know many of you will appreciate that;)
A little glimpse into our home progress so far….
And there ya have it. We have officially lost our minds. Five kids 10 and under, two cats, a full time portrait studio….and a puppy? Ever heard of the saying, “If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart”— that completely sums it up. Our hearts are full seeing these kids smile with their new pup.
In case you’re wondering what breed she is….. she’s a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. About 2.5 lbs when we brought her home and already growing like a weed. We are officially in love with our Charlie Rose. Even the tough guy husband who fought me tooth and nail on getting a dog is madly in love with our fur baby. Pretty stingy with her cuddles actually. I have to pry him out of her hands!
I’m pretty sure if you follow me on Instagram, it’s obvious she’s spoiled already!
It’s been quiet here on the blog, but certainly not quiet at the studio. What a crazy fun spring and summer we have had so far! Easily the busiest in 7 years and I couldn’t be any more grateful. I have met so many new families, and had just as many come back with new babies, or to capture a baby milestone. I’m truly blessed to do what I do.
I’m learning though, that it’s time for a bit more balance with home and work life. As of this week, we began a new schedule for the studio. This should allow me set days to edit, process orders, blog, and schedule sessions. And for the first time in 7 years, I will have two full UNPLUGGED days. No Facebook? Am I crazy?! I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I feel like my life revolves around checking emails and Facebook updates some days. While I love to connect with other families and photographers, I am excited for those two days a week to remain world web free, and think it will benefit my family. My clients will also thank me when I come back refreshed;)
Also, I will be mass emailing the fall booking updates soon. Yeah, I know summer just started, but fall sessions book FAST. So if you are even thinking about a fall family or milestone session….. NOW is the time to get on the calendar.
Lastly, until I get on a more regimented schedule, the absolute BEST place to check out recent work and sessions is on the Facebook Page. Make sure to “Like” the page and add to your interests. It’s easier and faster to update than the blog, so we tend to prioritize that before blog posts. I’m hoping to change that again soon.
A few beautiful faces from this spring/early summer…… hoping to share more soon!! But for now… I have several galleries to get out today;)
I first met this family 3 years ago at my first studio, and have enjoyed watching them grow through Facebook:) Marina was an absolutely beautiful baby girl so I just knew her little sister would be just as stunning! She sure was.
Introducing Stella and her sweet big sister Marina….
What a perfect way to start an insanely busy week. Hugo was such a doll for his newborn photo session this morning in this studio. I can’t count how many times he smiled for me! He even smiled wide awake! I offered to let him stay all day so I could photograph him;) I’m sure his parent’s think I was kidding…. with these cheeks and smiles.. I was serious;)
We had a very busy weekend here at the studio! Four families and all so fun to work with!
The last baby this weekend was stunning 6 month old Kensington. She smiled when I first met her, but it didn’t take us long to realize, my usual “peek-a-boo’s” weren’t going to work with this little one. We took our time though and captured some beautiful smiles and her big brown eyes. She is so beautiful.
Love LOVE mom’s craft work…she made this beautiful purple tutu and the headbands!
This year so far, I have been fortunate enough to have many many beautiful mothers in the studio wishing to capture their pregnant body. It’s such a fleeting time… a perfect time to pamper yourself and spend the morning preserving it with photographs of your baby bump.
One of the best parts of the maternity sessions is getting to know each other before baby arrives. I think it sets the stage and really makes a huge difference on how comfortable you feel with me when you bring your new miracle back to the studio. Many of my maternity clients come to me, obviously without ever meeting me. I assure you, when you leave… you won’t feel like I’m a stranger;) That is the best part of my job…creating new friends every day!
I had so much fun at Lina’s maternity session. Her husband is quite the riot too and we all had a lot in common;)
It wasn’t long before Mayli Grace arrived. I knew she would be stunning before I even saw her. She was amazing for her session. Pure perfection.
Thanks for letting me indulge in a large share tonight. I had too many favorites to narrow it down further;)
Introducing today’s sweet newborn boy, Kamali, Xavier. A teeny tiny 8 days new. He reminds me so much of my second daughter, Elena when she was born. Full head of fluffy dark brown hair.. I should totally post a photo of them side by side!
I first met big sister Ela two years ago. They came to my old newborn studio on Frederick Rd Catonsville for her newborn session. She was an angel for me, so I was excited when dad called to say they were expecting again! Another baby girl!
Baby sister Oya was the perfect newborn model. Posed and slept like a dream.
There was no way I could let them leave without capturing a few of Ela and these BIG brown eyes!! She has got to be one of the most beautiful toddler’s I have ever met.
I’m always up in the air with the best way to approach this blog. Do I post after a gallery is complete, to show more variety? Or should I post the day of a session, when the session is fresh in my mind and when anticipation is high for the parents? Oh the choices!
I think generally, I stay more up to date here when I post daily, even if it’s just a few favorites. When I wait to post a huge session share, I tend to procrastinate. I’m already weeks behind! I guess I am answering my own question here. I should just post the same day;)
Today’s beautiful newborn girl was Harper. We had to reschedule TWICE due to snow. At 16 days new, she was absolutely stunning, and so alert! She’s a military baby (mom is a NICU nurse), so we joked that she was ready to fight! She finally settled into a deep sleep though and allowed me to capture some beautiful photos of her.
I went for a little touch of spring today, in hopes that it will chase the winter away!
One of the drawbacks of living in Maryland is having such a turn around with families. Many young families come to Maryland for the military, government, or to finish their residency at one of Baltimore’s many teaching hospitals. We happen to have one of the countries top teaching hospitals here in Baltimore, John’s Hopkins Medical Cener. Of course with all the job opportunities here, one would think I shouldn’t complain right? Wrong.
Each year, I meet so many new families and sadly, many of them have to leave and move:( I mean many! I had to say goodbye to at least 20 of my favorite families this year alone! Thank goodness for Facebook because we can stay in touch and I can still watch their babies grow:) Without that, I would be one sad lady!
While I am happy to see families grow and move on to bigger and better things, the selfish part of me misses capturing those memories. What I will say is, if one happens to be you, make sure to ask me for a list of amazing photographers in your new hometown! I network with photographers all over the globe and would be more than happy to make sure you find someone to treat you good.
Anyway, back to the lovely subject of this post. Miss Maci Jane (love her name!). Maci’s family came to me as a referral from another favorite client who is moving to CA soon. And guess what? Maci will be moving to San Diego too! WAAAHHH!!! Her paren’t are AMAZINGLY sweet too which makes it even worse:( Beautiful baby girl, stunning mom and handsome dad.. yep. Some California photographer will be lucky to have them as clients!
Miss Maci.. you are just beautiful. I will miss seeing you, but hope to see you again in June before you go!!
Maci was breech in her mama’s tummy and loved to have her feet up by her face;)
We incorporated several special things into her session. I have only posted a few here. This little hat below was custom made with a Rhino, as dad is a pilot and Rhino is his call name. Pretty cute eh?
This quilt Maci is resting on was created with her late Grandmother’s favorite sweatshirts. I admit, I watered up when I saw this:( I know how special it is to them.
Did I mention dad is a pilot? I think so;) Of course the airplane was a given!
Until next time~
Sarah was absolutely glowing at her maternity portrait session at the studio a couple of weeks ago. Pregnancy suits her well:)
I am so excited to meet their little boy at his newborn session soon!
Huge share here because I couldn’t pick a few favorites this time. Oh wait… I said that with the last post too didn’t I? I guess it doesn’t take a genius to figure out I am indecisive;)
Julian was absolutely perfect for his newborn session in the studio last week. To top it off, he came in with his gorgeous sister and adorable big brother! Seriously beautiful Catsonville family here! I love my job!!
Introducing baby girl Camille…..
I had this long post typed out last week and it didn’t save. Ooops! Anyway, I just HAD to share this amazingly beautiful 12 day old newborn girl. Her photo session went well beyond smooth for us and I think it makes the cut for one of my all time favorites.
Camille’s mom is an OB in Bethesda Maryland so it was pretty awesome to have her in the studio with her own newborn baby. Aside from what I do now as a newborn family photographer, being an OB would be my next choice as a career;) I have the utmost respect for them, and think they have an amazing job!! Truth be told… if I had to time to go to medical school(and were a few years younger!), I would consider going back to school for it;)
As you can tell, her father has quite the heroic career also. I think the below image speaks for itself. She is one lucky baby to have such giving parents.
Baby smiles while awake?? Come on folks, this just doesn’t happen at 12 days old! GAH!
7 day old Brody was a good little fella for his session this morning. He’s the second baby boy in the family, and we had fun re-creating some of the poses his big brother did for his newborn session.
Sutton is the first baby girl in one of my favorite families. Her grandparents are also photographers, so I was honored when they first reached out to have me capture their grandson in 2011. Time flies and there have been two newborns added to the family since we first met, including little baby Sutton here. She is absolutely beautiful just like her mama.
Remember this sweet fluffy newborn from last January? Baby Kendall has come to see me several times over the course of her first year. It has been amazing watching her grow and in the process, I have gained some great friends. Her parents are the sweetest people ever and I can’t be any more grateful to have followed them through this first year.
Happy Birthday Baby Girl!!! You are so loved!!!
Introducing Julian Alexander, 12 days new….
He was such an alert little guy! I’m a huge fan of great eye contact newborn portraits. They are a little hard to come by when these little people have such a hard time focusing. Every now and then, you get a wee one with excellent eye contact;)
A wee bit behind eh? I have since decided I am going to just keep these photos for Facebook. It’s easier especially now that it’s busy season with newborns:) If you are on Facebook, make sure to follow my page!
Day 21: Toddler toes. I love how they can sit like this.
Another attempt at snow play. The girls ran around and had fun while I kept Jackson company. He’s not a fan. Doesn’t help he can’t walk well in his boots and the snow was high. He was content staring at the sky.
My favorite photo wall in the house. A tribute to my father who passed away in February 2010. Upper left was my wedding day. What makes it even more special is you can see my late PopPop in the background. Top middle…my girls looking up to the heavens to see their Grampy that fall. Upper right…my dad in his shop. Lower left, dad and my mom walking Julia to the waves. She was so scared! Lower right, my wedding day. I love this wall.
